🛒 Eat Well, Spend Less...Even as Prices Rise


Hi Reader,

During my last grocery store trip, as I walked aisle by aisle, I couldn't believe how everything is already more expensive than 1 year ago and sadly, probably going to go even higher :(

It’s frustrating. Especially when you’re doing your best to eat clean, support your body, and feed your family well.

But here’s the good news: you can still eat healthy, nourishing food without overspending.

It just takes a little strategy, but never fear, I’ve got your back!

Here are my favorite tips for buying the best food at the best prices:

1. Buy smart...not just organic

Yes, organic is great… but it’s not always necessary. Use the EWG’s Dirty Dozen and Clean Fifteen lists as your guide. Stick to organic for the items on the dirty dozen list (like strawberries, spinach, and kale), and save on items from the clean fifteen list (like sweet corn, avocados, and pineapple), by buying the less expensive non-organic versions.

2. Frozen = Fresh (and cheaper!)

Frozen fruits and veggies are picked at peak ripeness and flash frozen, meaning you’re still getting the nutrients without the short shelf life. Frozen wild-caught salmon, organic berries, or spinach can be total budget-savers, and perfect for things like smoothies. It drives me nuts to throw away fruit that has gone bad, so I usually buy frozen fruit, but I also buy arugula and spinach and freeze them for my smoothies too!

3. Shop what’s in season

Seasonal produce is often more affordable and nutrient-dense. If it’s locally grown, even better, less transportation means lower cost and fresher food. For April, look for fresh arugula, artichokes, beets, spinach, and asparagus.

4. Plan it out like a pro

Impulse buys can sabotage both your wallet and your wellness goals. Take 15 minutes each week to meal plan and make a grocery list based on what you already have and what’s on sale. You’ll be shocked how much this saves you over time. And, never go to the store hungry, you are much more likely to overbuy when you want to eat everything in sight!

5. Don’t skip the store brand

Many store brands offer high-quality organics or non-GMO items at a fraction of the price of name brands. Read the labels, and you might be surprised!

I know the headlines can feel overwhelming right now, but this is where your power lies, in your everyday choices.

And remember, you don’t have to do it perfectly to make a difference for your health and your bank account.
